Fort Bard (Forte di Bard) is a 19th century fortress of the House of Savoy, located at an imposing rock spur above Bard, a town in the Aosta commune in Italy.

Nowadays this fortified complex hosts the Museum of the Alps, the “Prisons”, the Fortresses and Frontiers Museum, as well as permanent and temporary exhibitions. During summer, the main courtyard is used for opera, musical and theatrical performances.

The Fort Bard is formed of three main defence stations positioned at different levels, the lowest at 400m above ground and the highest at 467m. The different defence structures accommodate different operas: the Ferdinando Opera, the Vittorio Opera, and the Carlo Alberto Opera.

Does visiting the fortress sound like an exhausting trip? Don’t worry, the top of the fortified rock is easily accessible thanks to the external glass lifts, which take you to the top, spoiling you with stunning views.
