Nickel-Messing ist eine goldfarbene Kupfer-Nickel-Zink-Legierung. Der Farbton wird durch den Anteil an Nickel bestimmt. Eine Nickel-Messing-Legierung mit einem Nickelanteil von 2 % ist dunkler als einen Nickel-Messing-Legierung mit einem Nickelanteil von 6 %. Da Nickel-Messing nicht so stark anläuft wie Messing, kommt es im Laufe der Zeit zu keiner Farbveränderung.
Nickel-Messing-Legierungen weisen die Gütevorteile von Messing auf, werden jedoch als sichere Legierungen eingestuft. Wertmünzen aus Nickel-Messing sind schwer zu kopieren, da die Legierung ausschließlich für sichere Münzverwendungen hergestellt wird.
Nickel-Messing hat eine spezifische elektromagnetische Signatur, wodurch elektronische Prüfmechanismen sie von anderen Münzen unterscheiden können.
