Neusilber oder Nickelsilber hat einen silbernen Farbton. Neusilber wird häufig für die Herstellung von Souvenirmünzen verwendet, da es relativ anlaufbeständig ist (Farbveränderung durch Oxidation).
Neusilber mit einem Nickelanteil von 12 % wird vorwiegend für Zahlungsmünzen und Neusilber mit einem Nickelanteil von 18 % aufgrund seines glänzenden silbernen Farbtons hauptsächlich für Gedenkmünzen verwendet.
Neusilber weist die Gütevorteile von Messing auf, wird jedoch als sichere Legierung eingestuft. Wertmünzen aus Neusilber sind schwer zu kopieren, da die Legierung ausschließlich für sichere Münzverwendungen hergestellt wird.
Neusilber hat eine spezifische elektromagnetische Signatur und Materialdichte, wodurch elektronische Prüfmechanismen sie von anderen Münzen unterscheiden können.
